In Bangladesh's capital, Dhaka, groundwater threatens the people's health. Within the last 50 years, groundwater levels have dropped to over 200 feet and is dropping at around 9 feet per year. This issue has been overlooked even though clean water is crucial to healthy living. The water quality in Dhaka has toxins and pollutants. Arsenic, a well known carcinogen is found in shallow groundwater and can be costly to one's health.
I think over pumping needs to be stopped in order for the water to not be contaminated. The simple fact is we can no retain human life without water so if we continue to pump ground water, we are only harming ourselves and the environment we live in. Clean water is a necessity that we simply can not substitute.
